Bunting comes down as Meet 2024 plans begin

STOP AND GO: Meet volunteers prepare to take down the bunting ahead of next week's meeting to discuss plans for the 2024 event TM pic

MEMBERS of Barney’s Meet Committee were out in force on Sunday, dodging the showers to take down the festive bunting to be packed away for another year.

The bunting, along with Union flags, were kept up all summer to celebrate the King’s coronation.

Committee member Colin Glasper said: “We’d like to thank Chris Kearton for the loan of his cherry picker, which made the job a lot easier and quicker.”

The volunteer group, which organises the traditional Whit bank holiday festivities, will be holding an open meeting on Tuesday, September 19, at the Red Well Inn, in Barnard Castle, at 6.30pm, when details of next year’s event will be discussed. There are hopes the Meet 2024 could be tied in with celebrations marking the 550th celebration of Richard III’s association with the town.
