AN epic charity cycle ride by four brothers in honour of their dad is to culminate in a music gig in Barnard Castle.
Brothers Tom and Ben Watson and Taigh and Finn Connor-Watson begin their 330 mile cycle ride on June 22 and hope to be back in Teesdale only hours before their gig on June 30. The ride is in memory of their dad Dave, who died of pancreatic cancer late last year. He is best remembered for running Warm Age Wood, in Market Place, which helps provide briquettes to people in fuel poverty.
The brothers’ journey begins in Ardersier, in Scotland, where their dad was born.
Tom Watson said: “We will be going through and stopping at Kingussie, Kirkliston, Melrose, Wark and finishing in Barnard Castle.
“This will take us through and over the Cairngorms, North Pennines and Kielder Forest, and will be mostly off road for more than 330 miles, with over 22,000ft of climbing.”
His brother Ben added: “We have created a dedicated Facebook page – facebook.com/comeonletsfly – which has the details of the gig, the ride and the donation page. We’ll be posting daily updates and pictures on there during the actual ride.
“In order to make the absolute most of all this we’re also putting on a gig up at the TCR Hub on our return, literally the day we finish our six day bike ride.
“This will be headlined by the Wattyboys – my dad was the singer, and myself and one of my brothers also play in the band. All proceeds will be going towards our charity raising efforts.”
The brothers have decided to support Pancreatic Cancer Action in honour of their dad.
Also appearing at the gig are Andrew Yeadon and Moray Nellis.
Advanced tickets cost £5 and can be brought at the Warm Age shop in Barnard Castle. Tickets on the door cost £7.
