CLARENDON’S Cafe and Tearoom in Barnard Castle has teamed up with the Teesdale Mercury to bring a little cheer this winter by offering a takeaway afternoon tea for two to a deserving person each week until Christmas.
The afternoon tea for two, which is worth £25, contains a selection of sandwiches including ham, brie and cranberry, and smoked salmon with cream cheese; a miniature fruit scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream; a miniature cheese scone with English butter; a slice of homemade chocolate and lemon cake; a miniature lemon posset and a miniature fresh fruit pavlova.
Clare Dixon, of Clarendon’s, said: “There is so much doom and gloom in the news at the minute and as we head towards Christmas the Clarendon’s Team just wanted to bring a smile to someone’s face each week. Just to let people know we still care.”
People can nominate anyone for the prize by writing no more than 150 words about why they think they deserve it and emailing it to editor@teesdalemercury.co.uk or dropping it off at Teesdale Mercury Shop at 24 Market Place, Barnard Castle.
The afternoon tea is collection only, and people must give contact details of the person they are nominating, as well as the name of the person who will collect the prize. Please mark letters or emails “Claredon’s Competition” .
