Book day celebrates pupils’ return to class

BACK IN SCHOOL: Pre-school

A DALE school delayed its activities for World Book Day until all pupils were back in class.
The event was officially marked on March 4, but staff at Gainford Primary School decided to hold on for a week so the children could take part in a host of activities with their friends. Headteacher Chris Riley said: “World Book Day is such a big part of our school calendar and is a wonderful way of promoting reading and a love for books.
“We wanted to share the experience in school with all of our pupils, especially our pre-school pupils who hadn’t taken part in World Book Day before. It was also a celebration of having a school full to the brim with children once again.” Class Wear focused on Alice in Wonderland, with a wonderful Mad Hatter’s Tea Party which also helped the pupils with their writing when presenting instructions on how to make their delicious sandwiches. Class Tees learnt about a variety of authors but also got creative designing Willy Wonka sweets and their own book covers.
The youngest pre-school children in Class Swale came into school dressed in an array of costumes depicting their favourite characters from books such as The Fantastic Mr Fox, and How the Leopard Got His Spots.
