BONFIRE night is back in Barney after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic and organisers are hoping there will be a big turnout .
Barnard Castle Christmas Lights Group is organising the event on the upper Demesnes, which will feature a firework display by Reaction Fireworks on Friday, November 4.
Although the cost of the pyrotechnic display has increased by 25 per cent, ticket prices will remain the same as three years ago, meaning Barney people will have more bangs for their bucks.
Roger Peat, from the Christmas Lights Group, said: “We will need 800 people to just break even, so we want as many people there as possible.
“We will be doing well to breakeven, but this is an event we want to do successfully for the town rather than just as a fundraiser. But we do need the support of the town because we can’t lose money.”
More than 4,000 traditional fireworks will be set off during the 15-minute display, which is timed to start at 7pm.
Mr Peat added: “Hopefully the fire engine will be there on the night, as long as they are not on a call out, because we asked them to light the bonfire.”
Charity fundraising group The Clique will once again be helping to steward the event.
Catering outlets will be at the event with the Barista Sisters and the Lady Grey providing warming selection of drinks and Yums the Word and Carousel Catering offering food.
Advance tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for children, and a family ticket (two adults and two children) £15. They are available the Teesdale Mercury shop and Galgate News, as well as The Witham box
office by ringing 01833
631107 or visiting www.thewitham.org.uk.
On-the-gate tickets will cost £8 for adults, £6 for children with a family ticket priced at £20.
Gates open at 6pm on Friday, November 4, with the bonfire due to be lit at 6.30pm.
