Body found in search for missing long-distance runner

POLICE and mountain rescue teams searching for a missing long-distance runner have found a body.

Durham Police confirmed on Sunday that a body was discovered in remote part of Teesdale on Sunday.

Jenny Hall, from Tow Law, was reported missing on Tuesday, February 18.

Her red Ford Focus was found parked on the B6278 between Eggleston and Stanhope the following day.

Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team, along with colleagues from 15 other fell rescue squads, helped with the search.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers carried out an extensive search alongside specialist partners and have been working around-the-clock to locate Jenny after she went missing on February 18.

“The body was found in a very remote area in Teesdale just after 9.30am today (February 23).

“Formal identification has yet to take place.”

The spokesperson added that the family had been informed and are beign supported by specialist officers.

The spokesperson said: “It is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances.

“We would particularly like to thank the public for all their help in sharing our appeal and the expert mountain rescue teams and other organisations who have been working intensively alongside officers on the ground.”
