Bike raffle will help boost funds for refugees

ON YOUR BIKE: Lois Marley and Pauline Connelly and the bike being raffled to raised money for those affected by war in Ukraine

GET on your bike and do your bit to support those affected by the war in Ukraine.
That’s the aim of a fundraising raffle launched by Connelly’s Toy Shop, in Barnard Castle.
Pauline Connelly has been gifted a bike she once sold as a Christmas present to Lois Marley, of Blagraves, on The Bank, opposite the toy shop. Ms Marley, who along with her family is moving out of the landmark restaurant following its sale, decided the bike could be put to good use. This is my bike and we were having a bit of a sort out while packing up,” said Ms Marley.
“With the bike being virtually brand new, I thought it would be nice for someone else to use it.”
Ms Connelly added: “We thought it would be a lovely idea to raise some money given the situation in Ukraine.
“You can’t comprehend what’s happening there and you can’t understand what those people are going through, having to leave others at home.”
The bike is about four years old and has been lightly used.
It has a 17-inch frame and is a 21-gear Raleigh Daytona mountain bike.
Ms Connelly said the bike would be given a service before being handed over to the lucky raffle winner.
Tickets are £1 each and the draw will be made on Friday, April 1.
Anyone wishing to enter the raffle can buy tickets from the toy shop.
