New traffic calming measures could be introduced in Cockfield following a meeting between county officers and parish council members.
The village has been plagued with parking problems which in the past has prevented an ambulance from getting through.
Durham County Council traffic engineer Ellis Dunn, from the traffic assets team, and a colleague visited the village and met parish councillors Neville and Brenda Singleton.
Cllr Neville Singleton called for yellow lines between the Co-op shop and the bus stop to prevent people parking along one side of the road.
He added: “We get a lot of complaints that the buses can’t get through when there is a wagon unloading [at the Co-op].
“People park on both sides of the roads and large vehicles can’t get through. There have been quite a few arguments.”
Cllr Singleton also highlighted a problem with people speeding into the village from the entrance towards Lands and Esperley.
He suggested this was because the 30mph restriction sign is too far outside the village and asked that it be moved closer to the built-up area.
Mr Dunn said he would complete a survey of the village, taking in all road markings and signs, and come up with various options to improve the situation.
He added that any work to be carried out would come out of the traffic assets management team’s maintenance budget.
