Bed push delivers vital funds for dale

TAKE IT EASY: Members of The Clique before they set off on their eight-mile fundraising bed push

AN-EIGHT mile bed push has raised more than £1,000 for causes in Teesdale.

The annual event saw about 20 members of fundraising group The Clique push a bed from Mickleton to Barnard Castle, collecting cash along the way.

The group had hoped to match last year’s tally of £850 but managed to smash that target, raising £1,002.22.

The bed push on Saturday, May 25, started at 9.30am at the Crown, in Mickleton, calling at Romaldkirk, Cotherstone and Lartington, before moving to Barnard Castle

in time for the town’s unofficial boat race.

David Harper, of The Clique, said: “It was a fantastic day and we just want to thank everyone who supported us – without them it would not be possible. The money we raised will be given to local causes. We couldn’t have raised as much without the support and generosity of the people in Teesdale.”

The Clique was formed by a group of friends in the early 1970s.

Members raised £2,730 at a sporting legends event held at Barnard Castle Cricket Club last month and are hoping to raise even more cash when they host their popular It’s A Knockout on Saturday, June 21.

All the cash will go into a kitty which will be distributed to groups and charities in Teesdale in November.

Organisations are welcome to apply to The Clique for a share.
