TWO reigning beauty queens from Romaldkirk are preparing to host their very own pageant in Teesdale to help raise money for charity.

Kaitlyn Ramsay, 15, has organised the Queen of the Dales 2020 event which will take place this Saturday (February 2) at Barnard Castle Workingmen’s Club. The current Miss Teen Royal Sapphire UK is being helped by her younger sister Carys Ramsay, six, who is the current Princess Royal Sapphire North East.

The siblings are hoping to raise as much money as possible for The Sick Children’s Trust, a charity which provides families with a place to stay, free of charge, just minutes from their sick child’s hospital bedside.

The fundraising drive is part of the pair’s own pageant journeys which will see both sisters compete in the Belle International pageant in Spain in April this year.

Kaitlyn, who started taking part in pageants less than two years ago, was crowned with the UK title at the same event last year which automatically gave her a place in this year’s event. Carys competed in the North East National pageant back in May last year which won her a place to compete in the upcoming international pageant.

Kaitlyn said: “It is not all about the glitz and the glamour and the makeup. It is about the charity and the fun behind it. The best thing I have gained from it all is confidence and friendships.”

The Queen of the Dales event is ideal for beginners who just want to experience a beauty pageant. There will be categories for different age groups which will be judged by other reigning pageant queens including Miss Galaxy Europe.

The event will consist of three rounds. Those wishing to take part will need three different outfits – something sparkly, a high street fashion inspired outfit and evening attire. Everyone who enters will walk away with a crown on the day.

Kaitlyn, who attends Teesdale School and Sixth Form, said: “It is best to give it a try. You just need to be yourself.”

She said full training will be given on the day. Entry fee is £15 as well as a minimum fundraising donation of £15 for The Sick Children’s Trust. Anyone wishing to take part can turn up on the day. Admission is £3 for anyone wanting to watch the show.
