PUPILS at Montalbo Primary School, in Barnard Castle, have completed 100 acts of kindness in memory of Capt Sir Tom Moore, who raised millions of pounds for the NHS by doing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.
The challenge was put to the children by headteacher Chris Minikin. He said: “We were all touched by Capt Sir Tom’s fundraising efforts, his warmth and spirit, and I felt this would be our small tribute to him. I have been delighted to receive emails each week from parents highlighting their child’s good deeds.
“There has been such a range of lovely acts of kindness our children have undertaken.”
Among the 100 acts were children baking cakes for friends, teachers, neighbours and charities, children writing cards and letters to friends and care home residents, children picking litter in the local area, washing cars, helping with farm animals and wildlife, as well as donating money and food to local causes. One child even paid for the refreshments of the next person to enter Costa Coffee. Although the challenge has ended, Mr Minikin is still keen to hear of the children’s further acts of kindness. The school will be teaming up with The Bowes Museum and other schools on a Kindness Quilt project.
