Barnard Castle traders urged to get into the panto spirit for Christmas lights switch-on

IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC: Mayor Sandra Moorhouse and Cllr Kelly Blissett - one of the stars of Aladdin - with the magic lamp up for grabs in the window dressing competition

TRADERS in Barnard Castle are being given the chance to win a lamp – which could just turn out to be magical.

The town council is organising a window dressing competition to coincide with the switch-on of this year’s Christmas tree lights at the end of the month.

Mayor Cllr Sandra Moorhouse said the theme for the competition was “pantomimes” as her colleagues on the council are planning their own version of Aladdin as part of the switch-on fun.

The winner will receive a Middle East style lamp – courtesy of Cllr Moorhouse’s son, who lives in the Arabian gulf.

Businesses are being urged to register with the town council to take part in the competition by Friday, November 23, a week before the lights switch-on.

Traders are also being invited to set up stalls in and around Woodleigh on the evening of the switch-on. Full details of the window dressing competition and availability of stalls are available from deputy town clerk Jane Woodward on 01833 690970.
