Barnard Castle 1940s weekend – learn the basics of ballroom at special dance workshop

BEST FOOT FORWARD: Dancers enjoy the sunshine on the performance area at Scar Top during last year's 1940s weekend

REVELLERS planning to step back in time and head to Barnard Castle’s 1940s weekend are being invited to learn the basics of ballroom dancing.

Styles popular at the time – such as the waltz, quickstep, foxtrot and tango – are the subject of a beginners’ basic ballroom session which is being held at The Witham on Saturday, June 23, from 1pm to 2pm.

There are 20 places up for grabs – and there will be the opportunity to put into practice what has been learnt either at a dance in St Mary’s Parish Hall on Saturday night, or on the entertainment area at Scar Top during the day on Saturday and Sunday.

The session is being led by the Newton Aycliffe-based Lee Green Dance Centre and costs £5 per person.

Organisers say if the session sells out, a second will be organised between 2pm and 3pm.

To book a place, contact The Witham on 01833 631107.
