A DALE teenager has raised about £1,200 ahead of her selection for an international pagean, t but she needs help to look her best.
Kaitlyn Ramsay, from Romaldkirk, earned her way into the Belle International pageant, in Spain, after finishing runner-up in the UK event last year. Now the 14-year-old’s younger sister, Carys-Grace, five, is following in her footsteps by competing in this year’s national pageant in the hope of also making the international event next year.
The Teesdale School pupil entered the world of pageantry by sheer chance.
Her mum, Melissa, said: “She did a charity pageant for Ronald McDonald House in Chilton. She didn’t get a place anywhere at all, but she became addicted.”
Kaitlyn added: “I have gained so much confidence and I have made some great friendships.”
Over the time she has raised hundreds of pounds for charities. Her most recent fundraising event included a bungee-jump from Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge which brought in about £200.
She said: “It is the scariest thing I have done in my life.”
She prepared for the jump by abseiling – something she was determined to do so she could conquer a fear of heights.
“I wanted to go bigger,” she added.
The 14-year-old is now appealing for sponsors to help fund beauty sessions ahead of her trip to Spain on Saturday. Any beauty therapists or anyone else who can help can contact her mum, Melissa, on 07717 310280.
