Appeal attracts a hoard of Easter eggs

CHOCOLATE SURPRISE: Carol Hunter and Vicki Black

MORE than 150 disabled children from the region were smiling more broadly this Easter thanks to the response to a public appeal.

Hundreds of people responded within hours of Kyle Travel Agents, in Barnard Castle, putting out a request for Easter egg donations for the Smile For A Child charity last week.

Carol Hunter from Kyle Travelsaid: “It has we have had kids coming in with Easter eggs, we have had people bring them to our houses.

“For us it has just been phenomenal.

“We thought if we got 30 people it would be phenomenal.

“We have had eggs from customers, friends, family and complete strangers. We are extremely overwhelmed and appreciative.”

Chris Read, from Smile For A Child, which raises cash to help disabled youngsters get involved in sport, said the Easter eggs would go to youngsters “all over the local area” who have previously had contact with the charity.

He added: “The response has been absolutely amazing.

“The people of Teesdale are incredible.”
