A day of knockout fun in Barnard Castle

HANDS UP: The Where's Wally team stole the show with their outfits

A CHARITY set up to help people in Teesdale held an afternoon full of thrills and spills.

Some 18 teams braved a few heavy showers on the Demesnes on Saturday for the It’s a Knockout contest, organised by The Clique charity.

Local bands helped party-goers dance the night away afterwards as they enjoyed a drink or two in the marquee.

All money raised will be distributed by The Clique to good causes in Teesdale – whether that is helping a family in need or supporting a grassroots sports club.

Clique member and key organiser Dave Harper said: “We held the first one last year and it was so popular that the teams asked us to do it again, so we have. It’s bigger this year with more competitors.

“It’s not just about raising money. It’s about doing something for the community and having a family day with lots of fun. It helps promote The Clique too and let people know what we do.”

The main sponsors were JT Atkinson builders merchant.

The Clique has also said a special thank you to Barnard Castle Workingmen’s Club, The Three Horseshoes, Barnard Castle Cricket Club, Barnard Castle Rugby Club and The Black Horse.

Their help allowed the Clique to keep the beer at a reasonable price.

Dale firm Technimark, of Middleton-in-Teesdale, was given an award by the Clique for raising £400 on top of the £150 entrance fee for a team.

Barnard Castle firefighters took along an appliance for children to explore and there were also refreshments on offer and classic cars to see.

Matthew Croom, chairman of The Clique, said: “We’d like to thank everyone for making it such a success.”

Karen Bell and Michael’s Angels won the event with JT Atkinson Rugby second.
