Summer solstice at High Force

Pictured earlier this morning is High Force bathed in sunshine.

The stunning photo was taken by Martin Rogers at about 6am this summer solstice morning. 

Martin writes: “Due to its orientation and being set in a ‘notch’ in the rock, High Force is only in sunlight for just under an hour soon after sunrise during a week each side of the solstice. 

“When the water is low, as it is today, the complex rock structure of the waterfall becomes clearly visible – especially in sunlight.”
