From the archives: Bands strike the right notes in dale contest

A dip into the Mercury’s photo archives this week unearthed a couple of musical memories from yesteryear – one from the 1980s and the other from a decade later.

From July 1997, pictured are members of the Barnard Castle Youth Band who won two trophies at the Teesdale Brass Band Contest. 

The second picture, meanwhile, is more of a mystery. The photo contains no details of the musicians, other than to say the picture was taken at the 1988 brass band competition.
