Young James takes Barnard Castle Angling Club’s junior prize after landing 3lb 20z brown trout

WHAT A WHOPPER: James McCrindle with his award winning brown trout

THIS year’s annual meeting of Barnard Castle Angling Club is the one that got away.
Due to the current lockdown, the club has postponed the event, which usually takes place in early December.
Club secretary Frank Harrison said it was hoped the meeting could be convened at some point in the new year, depending on the Covid-19 situation and any restrictions which are in force.
The winner of the 2020 junior cup was 11-year-old James McCrindle, of Stainton Grove, who reeled in a brown trout weighing 3lb 2oz.
The senior cup went to David Havelock with a trout weighing 1lb 7oz.
Mr Harrison said club fees would remain unchanged at £50 for adults.
Juniors under the age of 18 are offered free membership – but they must register with the club.
The club has fishing rights on the north bank of the Tees from the mouth of Percy Beck to Abbey Woods and on the south bank from the former viaduct at Pecknell woods to the River View caravan park.
