Treat yourself to a day out at Bowes Show

ALMOST SHOWTIME: Bowes Show committee members Sheila Walker and Lynn Todhunter did a roaring trade on Barney's weekly market promoting this year's Bowes Show TM pic

HOME-baked cakes, cookies and a profusion of preserves were quickly snapped by shoppers at Barney’s weekly market when agricultural society members attended with a stall ahead of this year’s Bowes Show.

Committee members Lynn Todhunter and Sheila Walker did a roaring trade raising awareness and funds for the 136th annual event which is due to take place on Saturday, September 14.

As well as selling the tasty treats they had a constant stream of customers keen to buy a numbered duck for £1 for a prize event that will be held on show day.

Mrs Todhunter said: “We used to have a duck race on the river but we don’t do that anymore due to health and safety. This year we’re doing ‘pluck a duck’ on the day.”

All the plastic ducks will be placed in a paddling pool on the showfield before society president Phil Hughes picks out a winner.
