LOVELY LEEKS: Robert Close took top honours at Evenwood Town Leek Club show

ORGANISERS of Evenwood’s annual leek show say they were delighted with the number and standard of entries again this year.

The Evenwood Town Leek Club show was staged at the village’s workingmen’s club and attracted a number of new entrants – including the winner of the most points in show and best flowers.

Robert Close won the top prize for leeks.

He produced an immaculate pair of leeks totalling 206 cubic inches and also picked up the trophy for best leeks in show as well as benching the heaviest marrow.

The biggest leek on show was put forward by Jossy Aldsworth, while club newcomer Michael Proud earned most points and best flowers.

The best veg and best exhibit was won by Paul Tennick.
