Farmers’ big brekky boosts funds

FOODIE FUNDRAISER: Lorna Maughan

TWO farmers’ breakfasts in support of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) proved to be sell-out successes.

The annual events, at Sam Turner and Sons, near Piercebridge, are a highlight on the charity’s calendar, raising thousands of pounds for farmers who find themselves in difficult times.

Chairman of the County Durham RABI committee David Maughan said: “It went really well. It was a full house but we don’t know how much we have raised yet.

“It is a nice mix of people and a good breakfast. Many of them are farmers and there is still a job to do, so it is wonderful they keep coming to support us.

“We also had a Christmas Carol concert at Darlington Auction Mart for the third time and we were really pleased with that. We had an auction which raised a staggering £7,000.”
