Cooking up a storm for Bowes Show funds

ROARING TRADE: June Addison

COMMITTEE members of Bowes Agricultural Show did a roaring trade at Barnard Castle market last Wednesday.

A steady stream of customers, tempted by the mouthwatering array of cakes, scones, pies, freshly laid eggs as well as chutneys and jams the ladies and other members of the committee had put together, meant they had sold out by lunchtime.

June Addison, said: “We’ll have all this and more at the show and we’ve been baking hard.”

The committee, which is preparing for a bumper show on Saturday, September 8, has taken a stall at the market for many years to raise awareness of the show and to raise funds.

However, they also managed to hook a few names for the annual duck race, which is held later in the afternoon of the show and is usually very popular.
