THIS weekend’s Eggleston show will culminate with a sheep Grand National.
The 147th show is back at Hayberries Farm, near Mickleton, on Saturday, September 16.
For the first time, three sheep races are planned after the grand parade of all show winners at 3.30pm, in what has been billed as the “Teesdale Sheep Grand National” .
Show secretary Abie Teward said: “Donations and bets will be available, and the takings will be donated to two local charities after the show. “
All of the indoor trade stands have been booked and visitors can look forward to 44 stalls ranging from honey and brewers to pastries, craft and sweet treats.
Only a handful of outdoor trade stands remain available with some 18 agricultural and 35 general trade stalls confirmed so far.
Miss Teward said: “As normal, we have lots of children’s entertainment, which includes the fair rides.
“This year we have circus workshops, where kids can get involved with circus skills, and face painters.
“Alongside this, we also have different caterers to usual this year.
“All catering vans on the field are local to Teesdale. We’ve got coming The Crown @ Mickleton, Harvey’s, Fired and Sliced Pizza, Brymor Ice cream and Crepe Expectations.”
The show is a dog friendly event and a canine show will start at 12.30pm with classes for every breed.
Ms Teward added: “The show has lots of different entertainment throughout the day planned, including a working sheep dog display from Mickleton Working Dogs (Catherine Atkinson) and Dewr Sheep Dogs (Jessica Saukkonen) who will work their dogs on sheep in the ring and discuss the differences between working kelpies and border collies and sheep dog behaviours when working stock.”
Visitors can also look forward to watching the judging of the numerous sheep, cattle and horse entries.
