OWNERS of the Old Well Inn in Barnard Castle are celebrating after being named Teesdale Pub of the Season.
It is the fifth time the inn has been awarded the title by the Darlington chapter of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), having previously won in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2011.
Run by husband and wife team Roy and Rima Chatterjee, the pub has a constant supply of real ale from 19 different micro-breweries, giving patrons a wide selection to choose from.
Mr Chatterjee said: “For us it is really heart-warming. It means we are going something right.”
CAMRA member and pub regular for the past eight years David Makepeace said the award was “absolutely deserved” .
He added: “It is the perfect place to come to. The beer is great and there is a good choice.
“A big plus is I can bring my dog because it is dog-friendly.”
Mr Makepeace is part of a regular group that meets at the pub.
He said: “I would say a lot of the people I drink with like the lighter coloured, more hoppy, beer, and there is always one on standby if we finish it off.”
An additional bonus for Mr Makepeace is that as a CAMRA member he enjoys 30p discout on every pint he orders at the Old Well Inn.
