Hub’s high-tech greenhouse aims to grow digital skills

HIGH-TECH HELP: Facilitator Tom Whittaker at The Greenhouse at the TCR Hub

A HIGH-tech greenhouse has been launched – but rather than fruit and veg, it aims to grow the digital skills of the dale’s young folk.
The Greenhouse, at the TCR Hub, Barnard Castle, includes a range of digital tech resources including brand new hardware and software such as Adobe CC, Raspberry Pi’s, iPad and Apple Pencil, computers, cameras and more.
Facilitators Alice Redfearn and Tom Whittaker are delivering weekly workshops for young people on a range of topics including Zine making, e-newsletters, website building and environmental sustainability.
There are masterclasses, including a session on how to be a “Kid-entrepreneur” , aimed at ages 11-18 and are free to book via tcrhub.co.uk/ whats-on.
The Greenhouse also offers facilities for one-to-one or small group sessions for external use.
Ms Redfearn said: “The Greenhouse is a space for young people to access digital technology. We are really excited to be providing a series of exciting and innovative workshops for young people, which are free to book.
Already we have created collaborative zines using the equipment and are running workshops on designing sustainable futures.”
To find out more about The Greenhouse or express an interest in providing a workshop to support young people in Teesdale developing their businesses skills, contact Ms Redfearn at: [email protected].
