A LUXURY family-run hotel in Teesdale is in the running for two prestigious travel awards which could see it named as one of the finest hotels in the world.

Headlam Hall, near Gainford, beat off stiff competition from hotels across the UK to reach the finals of the prestigious Luxury Lifestyle Magazine Readers’ Travel Awards 2018. The four-star hotel is currently a finalist in the Best Hotel for Romance and the Best Spa/Wellness Hotel categories. The awards aim to shine a spotlight on the finest hotel and travel destinations in the world.

Following its nomination the venue, which underwent a £1.25million makeover in 2016, had to impress a well-travelled judging panel before being chosen as a finalist.

Other finalists include The Savoy in London, Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire and the legendary May Fair Hotel in London.

Staff at Headlam Hall are now hoping they can equally impress members of the public who are being asked to have their say and choose the winners.

Owner of Headlam Hall Thomas Robinson said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted in the Luxury Lifestyle Magazine awards. To have been nominated in two categories is a testament to the appeal of Headlam Hall.

“As an authentic 17th century country house, we occupy a unique location in the scenic Durham dales and endeavour to offer guests an idyllic rural retreat. We hope that everyone who knows Headlam will agree and be kind enough to give us their vote.”
