After the chop, Marj retrained as a barber

NEW VENTURE: Marj Henderson

REDUNDANCY led to career change for a former office worker.
Marj Henderson, from Evenwood, “took stock” of life after she was made redundant from her job at Bannatyne Fitness headquarters in October and decided to retrain as a barber.
The mum-of-two said: “I had been working at Bannatyne’s for 12 years and it was the kick I needed.
“It was scary and well out of my comfort zone, but I’m really enjoying it.”
Ms Henderson completed an intensive course with the Luke Anthony Barber Academy, in Darlington, to learn all the necessary skills before agreeing joining the beauty team at Serene Spa, in Barnard Castle.
With her own dedicated space within the spa, aptly named Marj’s Chop Shop, she is now offering appointment only barbering for men and boys.
She added: “I’m not doing a walk-in service as I’m also a support worker for Changing Lives, three days a week, helping vulnerable people, so will only be in the spa two days a week and will be appointment based.
“It will be just for males but I do beard trimming and styling as well as luxury hot towel shaves as well,” she added.
