Writing project goes online for all to see

WORDS AND PICTURES: This is how Philip Sculthorpe responded to the picture as part of The Witham project

THE results of an inter-generation writing project which began pre-pandemic and continued online have been posted for all to see.
The creative writing course started in 2019 at The Witham, Barnard Castle, involving adult aged 55-plus and local school children.
Those taking part were asked to share their experiences of living and growing up in the landscape and communities of Teesdale, with author, David Napthine engaged to head the project.
Susan Coffer, manager of The Witham said: “When the first lockdown happened, David moved the adult sessions online.
“This work, together with that created pre-lockdown by the adult groups and school children, has been turned into a film script with shooting on location underway. More
“However, we are now sharing part of the online creative writing sessions via our website.
“Participants were given a selection of images taken by Witham volunteer and keen photographer Peter Redgrave and asked to respond them.”
Ms Coffer said the results were “diverse and beautiful” .
They can be viewed at www.thewitham.org.uk/the-enriching-later-life-on-line-project.
The creative writing project was one of a number of initiaves at The Witham aimed at those aged 55-plus.
Others included Singing for Fun and Creative Age model making classes, both of which were curtailed by the pandemic.
