The show WILL go on – despite uncertainty

BARNEY BOUND: The Hot Rods will perform at the TCR Hub on Saturday

ORGANISERS of a major live music event say they are pressing ahead despite continued uncertainty over the easing of Covid restrictions.
The gig, headlined by The Hot Rods, is taking place at the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle, on Saturday, August 14, having already been twice postponed.
The group is kicking off a 14-date Back on the Road UK tour with the Barney gig, which they are dedicating to late lead singer Barrie Masters.
Promoter Dave Palmer, along with officials at The Hub, have committed to staging the gig despite a decision on the further easing of Covid restrictions being put back to July 19.
Mr Palmer said: “The team at The Hub are very much committed to going ahead with this gig despite the government’s delay in lifting restrictions.
“This is because we can hold the event on the outdoor stage if the government maintains restrictions indoors.
“However, the delay of the next announcement on lifting restrictions until July 19 does affect us because if we wait until after that date, we only have some four weeks before the show to sell out our tickets.”
Therefore, he said the firm decision that the gig would go ahead was taken to reassure those planning to buy tickets and go along.
Also on the bill are Department S, who are best known for their 1981 hit Is Vic There?
Support comes from two local bands.
First on stage will be Barney’s own About the Humans, featuring Andy Yeadon and Moray Nellis.
They will be followed by North East blues stalwarts Herbal Remedy.
The show will take place from 4pm to 11pm and tickets for the gig are £15 and are available via The Hub website www.tcrhub.co.uk.
Mr Palmer said plans to support the event with live shows during the day at pubs in the town have been dropped due to the uncertainty over Covid restrictions.
