String quartet returns to Barnard Castle for Sunday afternoon of classical music

WELCOME RETURN: The Aquarius Quartet return to The Witham after impressing with a show earlier in the year

THE next concert in a series of Sunday afternoon classical music performances at The Witham features the return of a quartet which was well received for their playing earlier in the year.

The Aquarius Quartet first visited the venue in April entertaining the audience with a programme ranging from Henry Purcell to Edward Elgar.

For their return visit on Sunday, October 20, they will perform favourites for string quartets including Haydn’s The Lark and Dvorak’s The American.

The quartet comprises violinists Louise Latham and John Phillips, Adrienne Spilsbury on viola and cellist Mary Dainton.

All four are accomplished and experienced players.

Ms Latham was a member of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for six years and has toured extensively.

Mr Phillips was a founder member of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet while Ms Spilsbury combines playing with composing.

Ms Dainton performs with several chamber groups, having originally trained as a doctor.

Their performance begins at 2.30pm and tickets are £12 for adults and £10 for U16s.
