Showcase highlights Teesdale as a hub of musical talent

LET'S ROCK: Feedback

YOUNG performers took to the stage at an annual showcase in Barnard Castle.
The event was organised by the music studio at The Hub and featured the talents of the musical theatre group, bands, singers and musicians who use the centre’s high-tech facilities and attend classes and tuition.
The two-hour show was performed in front of a sell-out audience of family, friends and supporters.
Tom Whittaker, music studio manager at The Hub said the acts on show were just a small part of the “massive talent” at the studio.
“We couldn’t fit everyone in one performance,” he added.
Mr Whittaker said the studio offered tuition in drums, guitar, bass, ukulele, singing, piano and music tech.
And while those on stage were just starting out in the music world, Mr Whittaker said the The Hub studio was open to anyone.
Other activities include an over-50s group which meets weekly on a Wednesday morning.
Opening the showcase was the musical theatre group which started out last January under the watchful eye Jane O’Byrne, who also compered the event.
“They have worked really hard.
“It is not just about learning to sing and dance – it is about working together as a team,” she said.
Other highlights included a performance of the James Bond theme by teenager Lewis Porter and seven-year-old Evan Lane and a drumming masterclass to the sound of The Darkness by Georgina O’Byrne.
Anyone interested in what’s on offer at the music studio at The Hub can contact Mr Whittaker on 01833 690150.
