DRINK UP: The Thinking Drinkers will perform at The Witham

FUNNY Way To Be Comedy has unveiled its programme for the first half of the new year at The Witham in Barnard Castle.

The schedule of shows, running from January to June, includes seven evenings of comedy and features a number of household names.

When Gary Delaney last visited Barnard Castle in 2018 the show sold out.

Delaney, Britain’s leading one-liner comic, returns, on Saturday, February 15, with another onslaught of lean, expertly crafted gaggery with his critically acclaimed show Gagster’s Paradise.

A Mock The Week regular and star of the last Live At The Apollo series, his shows are renowned in the business for a near unrivalled volume of high-class gags.

Musical comedy sisters Flo & Joan have a new show of their dark and waggish songs to parade about the place.

As part of a UK tour they are heading to Barnard Castle on Tuesday, February 18.

The duo shot to fame when they wrote and starred in a series of adverts for Nationwide Building Society, with their video Sisters being rated YouTube’s most popular advert in January 2018.

They recently released their first special concert performance, Alive on Stage, which is available on Amazon Prime worldwide. Flo & Joan are also set to headline the 2019 Live At The Apollo Christmas Special. Lou Sanders is one of the most original comedians in Britain.

A widely acclaimed stand-up, her last Edinburgh show received rave reviews and adding extra shows at both the Edinburgh Fringe and a series of London dates where it ended up selling out three separate runs. Sanders has appeared on many TV shows, most notably on the last series of Dave’s Taskmaster where she was crowned champion. The new show, Say Hello to Your New Step-Mummy, is on Friday, March 6.

Comedy duo The Thinking Drinkers return with a new show – an intoxicating look at history’s greatest drinkers.

You’ll learn a lot, laugh a lot and on top of that you get five free drinks. Due to the fact that alcoholic drinks will be served during the show, this one is strictly for over 18s.

The award-winning experts reveal how alcohol has inspired pioneering explorers, politicians and painters in equal measure, from Plato and Picasso, to Nelson, Napoleon and Norm from Cheers.

After three hugely successful BBC series as Lee Nelson,sell-out tours and court appearances following world-famous stunts on Theresa May, Sepp Blatter, Donald Trump, Kanye West and Britain’s Got Talent, the next award-winning comedian in the line up unveils his funniest creation yet – himself. For the first time Simon Brodkin leaves his characters in the dressing room and takes to the stage in Barnard Castle on Thursday, April 9, in his

new show, “100% Simon Brodkin” .

Britain’s Got Talent 2019 finalist, West End star and multi award-winning magician Ben Hart brings his debut theatre show on Friday, May 15.

Described by David Walliams as “the living embodiment of magic” , Ben Hart conjures a show that shines a light on magic, life, the universe and the darkest corners of your imaginations.

When Cannon and Ball appeared in Barnard Castle in 2019 they were universally loved by the Teesdale audience so, despite a busy schedule appearing on TV in various soaps and sitcoms, the UK’s longest performing comedy duo agreed to return the following year.

They will appear on Saturday, June 6, with their legendary sketches, songs, storytelling and audience question and answer session.

Funny Way To Be promoter Peter Dixon said: “This season completes our 10th year bringing comedy shows to Teesdale.

Right from the start our idea was to programme something for everyone, and this season we have managed to do that by booking a wide range of performers that are each at the top of their field.

“Some are acts that have gone down exceptionally well in the past and are returning to us. Others are making their Barnard Castle debuts.

We expect several of the shows to sell out, so we’d recommend that folks have a think about what they’d like to see and book early.”

Tickets for all shows are available now from funnywaytobe.com or the Witham Box Office.
