A COMEDY show which doubles as a pub quiz is promising fascinating facts and plenty of laughs when it comes to Barnard Castle later this month as part of a UK tour.
Audience members at The Thinking Drinkers’ Pub Quiz will also be offered five free drinks and the chance to compete for prizes in the show, hosted by Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland, self-styled award-winning drinks experts, comedians, hooch historians and alco-demics.
They promise an antidote to the weekly Zoom quiz which kept many locked down folk entertained during the darkest days of the pandemic.
Mr McFarland said: “The last 18 months have been very difficult for everyone and has raised a lot of profound questions about us as a society
“Rest assured, none of those questions will be in our Pub Quiz. Instead, expect to discover how drink has influenced every aspect of humanity – from geography and language to history, religion, the animal kingdom and, most crucially, our ability to name five London Underground stations named after pubs.”
The interactive imbibing quiz will see theatre-goers going head-to-head with a quiz sheet and pencil in one hand – and a selection of flavoursome fermentables in the other, including a superb small-batch, sustainable UK gin; a proper pilsner-style London lager; a Venezuelan sipping rum and a Japanese whisky.
The duo say there’ll be no mobile phones, no googling and no going to the toilet to phone a friend.
The show is part of the Funny Way To Be Comedy Club’s autumn season and is strictly for ages 18-plus.
It takes place at The Witham on Saturday, September 18. Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm.
Tickets are £16, available online at www.funnywaytobe .com, www.thewitham.org.uk or from The Witham box office, call 01833 631107
The five free drinks given to ticket holders will be provided in Covid compliant packaging.
