AN Evenwood businessman, who says “where words fail music speaks” has been recognised as one of the best in the business by a national magazine.

Richard has been named the Best Private Event Keyboard Musician in the North East by LUXlife, a bimonthly online magazine.

The Hawleys are familiar faces in and around Evenwood, with Richard frequently organising entertainment events in the village as well as teaching the piano and tuba to a growing number of clients.

Richard said: “I began playing the piano when I was eight and when I was 16 I was working as a church organist.

“When Rowan and I heard that we had won this award we felt wonderful, honoured, delighted and fulfilled. I have persevered in many different way to present a diverse range of music to a wide audience, building up my ability on organ, keys and brass.

“Ultimately I have very much enjoyed my performances and feel I have transmitted my love of music to many people.”

As a traditional wedding organist, Richard regularly plays the organ at St Paul’s Church, in Evenwood, and at St Mary’s Church, in Cockfield.
