It’s traditional fun for all at Cotherstone’s big weekend

COLOURFUL DAY: Action from last year's traditional fun and games in the village TM pic

COTHERSTONE is pulling out all the stops for this year’s fun weekend.

There will be everything from treasure trails, fancy dress, stalls and a fun run in the village from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 16.

The fun has already begun with scarecrow and treasure trails around the village -and this year’s theme is “hobbies” . People can register with Ann Thorn on 01833 650658.

Scarecrow and treasure trail information is available from the post office, Doe Park caravan park and the Fox and Hounds pub.

A fun run will take place on Friday, June 14, at 6pm.

Organised by the Play@Cotherstone group, people taking part should meet behind the Fox and Hounds. It will be followed by quoits.

On Saturday, June 15, the fancy dress parade will kick off at 12.55pm with all entrants to meet outside the Fox and Hounds. It will be led by the Rhythm Train and carnival queen Alice Whiting with attendants Isabella Butler and Summer Vasey. Judging takes place at the East Green.

The village hall will be open from 10am to noon and then from 2pm.

There will be stalls including crafts, cakes, books, bottles, bric-a-brac, tombola, cards, sweets and ice cream. A balloon man will entertain the children and cream teas will be available. The raffle draw takes place at 3.30pm.

Sports and a barbecue are due to be held at the playpark at 3pm and there will be a duck race on East Green at 5pm. Proceeds will go to the Great North Air Ambulance.

A family quiz will begin at 6.30pm in the village hall hosted by Friends of Cotherstone School. Bring your own nibbles and drinks.

At 10.30am on Sunday, June 15, villagers will play football at The Hagg, followed by children’s sport and egg throwing.

At 1pm, a dog show will be held in the village with entries taken on the day.

Barbecue and refreshments will be available with the proceeds to Friends of Cotherstone School.
