THE Witham in Barnard Castle will host Ireland’s award-winning TV and radio star Andrew Maxwell who will bring his ‘Showtime’ act to town on Friday, June 28.

Described by The Independent as “one of the most significant comedians working in the country today” , Andrew Maxwell is a Bafta winner.

He can keep an audience focused with accessible and unpretentious topical comedy which has a pinch of his unique laddishness, according to promoter Peter Dixon, of the Funny Way To Be comedy club. Mr Dixon added: “With ‘Showtime’, Andrew continued his long run of domination of the Edinburgh Fringe.

A memorable cocktail of personal stories, astute political observations and the odd surprise foray into character cameos, it won yet another barrage of five-star reviews for one of the festival’s most universally acclaimed acts. Now, it’s ‘Showtime’ for the rest of the country. Maxwell is known for his eagle-eyed current-affairs comedy, showcased in his many appearances on BBC Radio 4. He’s been seen on Live at the Apollo (BBC One), Have I Got News for You (BBC One), Celebrity Juice (ITV2) and Mock the Week (BBC Two); and he is the devilish voice of MTV’s Ex On The Beach.

Mr Dixon added: “This show was rearranged from an original date scheduled in May. We were delighted that Andrew was keen to come to Barnard Castle and he quickly sorted out a new date.”

‘Showtime’ is suitable for anyone aged 14-plus. Tickets, priced £14, are available from www.funny
