Introducing singer-songwriter Rebecca

MAKING AN INTRODUCTION: Rebecca-Anna Hosey is delighted her Flamenco inspired song has featured on BBC radio

AN aspiring singer-songwriter, whose ambition is to perform her work to “full stadiums” , says she is on the right track after her single Can’t Escape This featured on BBC radio last month.
Rebecca-Anna Hosey, from Barnard Castle, 20, originally wrote and composed the love song when she was just 11.
She said: “I wrote it and did make an early demo of it at The Hub.
“I rewrote the lyrics and put a demo track together for a university submission and after the feedback I got I knew I needed to record it properly.”
Ms Hosey, who is currently studying music at New College, Durham, enlisted the help of fellow dale musician Andy Yeadon to arrange the single, which was released in December.
She added: “It’s a pop song but it’s also inspired by Flamenco music as well. The choruses are actually in Spanish and I got help from my cousin, who is studying linguistics, to help me translate the lyrics for me.”
The track has featured on BBC Music Introducing, which helps highlight music from some of the North East’s stars of the future.
Although the title of the song is quite apt at the moment it is in fact a love song.
She said: “It’s about two people who meet after a long time and the feelings they still have for each other.
“I submitted a handful of tracks to BBC Introducing North East at the end of the year after hearing about it. It’s such a great platform, especially for independent artists like me, to gain some exposure,
“I can’t wait to see what happens next. With the Covid-19 situation it feels like I’m sat on my hands and I can’t wait for a time when I can go out gigging again.
“I’m working incredibly hard on my music and honing my skills as a songwriter and performer.
“Having featured on BBC Introducing it’s been a lovely silver-lining given the current climate and it’s really given me a boost.”
Ms Hosey regular performs virtually, posting some of her songs and covers to her social media pages.
The single, Can’t Escape This, is available from all the major online channels including Apple and Spotify.
