ANTIQUES expert David Harper believes he is getting it right with his online game show.
The popular personality from TV shows such as the BBC’s Antiques Road Trip has been developing show for his YouTube channel.
While he admits it has been hard work getting the show established, he said those efforts were starting to bear fruit – especially in America.
The show is called Getting it Right and is designed so viewers at home can play along as well.
Mr Harper and fellow antiques expert David Elstob filmed three episodes of the show at Blagraves, in Barnard Castle.
Mr Harper produces, films, directs and edits each episode, which is uploaded onto YouTube on a Friday.
“I have been working and building my YouTube channel for two years. It’s been a long hard road,” he said.
“There are so many viewing options out there, but it’s working and I have a lot of subscribers – about 50 per cent – in America.”
Mr Harper said he wasn’t trying to produce slick TV.
“I am trying to do the exact opposite of what you would see on TV.
“It’s raw, as it is, warts and all. I am breaking all the TV rules and it is really liberating.”
He said the most tricky and time consuming part of the process is the editing.
“The thing with YouTube is that it doesn’t matter as long as the content is interesting along with good people who have good stories.
“I love it. The contestants are all so different and we film with no rehearsal – I don’t know what’s coming and they don’t know what’s coming.”
Along with his YouTube channel, Mr Harper continues to work in mainstream TV – he has just finished filming another episode of Antiques Road Trip with fellow expert Catherine Southon.
He also tours his Romp With The Georgians one-man theatre show, gives talks and produces art.
The Getting It Right shows filmed at Blagraves will form the Christmas and New Year specials.
