Gig will showcase community centre as music venue

SHOWCASE: About the Humans

A GIG featuring four bands will help raise the profile of a dale community centre – both as a venue for live music and for its state-of-the-art recording facilities.
The event, on Saturday, August 14, is being headlined by The Hot Rods, who are bringing their Back on the Road tour in memory of late lead singer Barrie Masters, to the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle.
Also on the bill are About the Humans… a five-piece featuring Andy Yeadon, Moray Nellis and Rupert Philbrick, North East blues outfit Herbal Remedy and new wave survivors Department S, best known for the hit Is Vic There?
Promoter Dave Palmer said each band’s set would be recorded, taking a feed from the mixing desk to The Hub’s recording studio.
“We will offer each band a recording of their set and that will be theirs to take away. If they want any mastering doing, they can,” he said.
“We aim to keep a couple of tracks from each band to help promote The Hub. It will be good for the bands and good for The Hub.”
Mr Palmer said he hoped sound engineer Chris West, whose credits include a number of albums by rock legends Status Quo, would operate the music studio desk.
The gig will also be filmed.
“We will set up three cameras, so we should get some good footage, which will be good for The Hub as well,” he said.
“All the elements are in place – we just need a nice audience to play their part.”
Mr Palmer said ticket sales had been steady, with gig-goers understandably cautious as lockdown restrictions are eased.
“We are currently seeing a drop in the number of Covid cases every day. Fingers crossed that continues and that will increase people’s confidence.
“I am sure we will have a great audience to help create that special atmosphere of a live gig and make it a memorable day.”
Doors will open at 3.30pm with the first band on stage at 4.30pm.
Tickets, priced £15, are available online at www. tcrhub.co.uk.
