Get on your bike to TCR Hub and get connected

GEARING UP: Paddy Muir

A NEW year-long series of activities has been launched at a Barnard Castle community centre – and while officials at the TCR Hub say the weekly community connector scheme is primarily aimed at men aged 50 and older, anyone interested will be made welcome.
Community connector activities have kicked off with eight weeks of bicycle maintenance led by Paddy Muir, of Swale Cycles. When these have ended, walking football will be organised.
Jonny Elliott, outdoor pursuits and facilities manager at The Hub said it was hoped those taking part in the community connector sessions would also come up with their own ideas of what activities should be organised.
Activities take place on a Friday at The Hub between 10.30am and noon, followed by lunch. Then there is space for those attending to sit and socialise.
The scheme is fully funded by cash from the NHS administered by the County Durham Community Foundation. It aims to provide mental health and wellbeing support and tackle social isolation.
Mr Elliott said the Friday activities were similar to another year-long scheme hosted by The Hub on Thursday called Thriving Communities. This also aims to help those struggling in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic.
“The Community Connector is aimed at men over 50, but anyone interested in the activity we are running at the time is welcome to come along,” added Mr Elliott.
“Ideally, I would like to see ten to 12 people along each week and the thing is, I want people to tell me what it is they want to do.”
For more information and to book a place, contact Mr Elliott on 01833 690150 or email [email protected].
