FABULOUS FIDDLES: Rant hail from northernmost Scotland and the Northern Isles

FOUR of the finest fiddle players from the north of Scotland and the Northern Isles are heading south to showcase their skills in Barnard Castle.

Rant Fiddles features Bethany Reid, jenna Reid, Lauren MacColl and Anna Massie will entertain with a programme of reels, strathspeys and jigs when they take to the stage at The Witham on Saturday, May 18.

Since the release of their eponymous debut album in 2013, which won critical acclaim in the form of a Herald Angel Award for outstanding performance across all the Edinburgh Festivals , the band have made major festival and concert appearances across the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.

Their much anticipated second release Reverie confirmed this reputation and a third album is due out imminently.

During their short history they have also been nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014 for Best Traditional track.

All four players are also known for the work as soloists and with various other bands.
