Classic tale of Martians heads to dale village hall

LOOK TO THE SKIES: Hamsterley Village Hall will host a contemporary re-telling of HG Wells' classic story about an alien invasion

MARTIAN invaders will be heading to Hamsterley Village Hall when a theatre company puts on a vivid and dynamic new production.

Northern Stage relocates HG Wells’ iconic science fiction novel to Northumberland in a contemporary re-telling of this sci-fi classic about an alien invasion.

Ten missiles are fired at the unsuspecting Earth and are rushing through the empty gulf of space – ten missiles carrying an invading force of Martians, their intellects vast, cool and unsympathetic. Hour by hour, day by day, closer and closer the Martians come, ready for war and the massacre of mankind.

The War of the Worlds charts the fortunes of a band of survivors as they become refugees in their own country, forced to flee from an unknown and unprovoked enemy, and battle against the devastation and destruction of their planet. The show, on Friday, October 5, at 7.30pm, is performed by a cast of four, directed by Elayce Ismail and adapted by Laura Lindow who wrote the script for Beyond the End of the Road – the award-winning musical about Northumberland that toured with Highlights Rural Touring Scheme in June. The performance is recommended for ages 12-plus and members of the audience will be invited to join in for refreshments after the show.

Tickets cost £8 adult, £5 for students, and £24 for a family.

To book contact 01388 488323 or 01388 488024.
