Barney band members attempt to avoid a socially distanced soaking

STRIKE UP THE BAND: Barnard Castle Band members braved the rain to take part in their first socially distanced practice in the open-air last month

MEMBERS of Barnard Castle Band dodged rainstorms to take part in their first practice session for three months due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Band leader Andrew Nicholson arranged the session, which took place in the deserted car park behind Glaxo Sports and Social Club.
However, members had to wait in their cars until heavy rain showers passed over head before they could get out their instruments.
Mr Nicholson said: “I just wanted to make sure we weren’t regressing as it’s quite easy to go back when you haven’t practiced together.
“It’s strange to think we should have been giving a concert for 1940s weekend, instead we’re in a car park trying not to get wet.”
All members of the band were socially distanced and had to make a dash for their vehicles after a rousing rendition of a march when black clouds brought a fresh deluge.
He added: “We’re going to be looking for somewhere big enough to accommodate us to practice so we have a bit of cover until we can return to the club.”
