Author Kay shares her love for Barney in new book

FAVOURITE WALKS: Author Kay Wilson with her latest book that focusses on the water ways of Barnard Castle

BARNARD Castle author Kay Wilson has published her 20th book – 28 years after the first.
The former librarian and poet is hoping to inspire a love for her favourite riverside walks in Barnard Castle Waterfalls, Weirs and Woodland Streams.
Mrs Wilson, who lives in Galgate, has written a mixture of adult and children’s books along with poetry.
She said: “My friend and I go walking a lot and two of our favourite walks are through the woods by Percy Beck, crossing the Tees at the Silver Bridge and following the river down past the Green Bridge.”
She hopes her latest book, which combines photography, poetry and history, will inspire and encourage others to explore the area surrounding the town.
She said: “I just wanted to share my love of Barnard Castle and its wonderful history.
“It’s a little homage to Barney and the history of the mills.”
The book includes details of the town’s only remaining mill, coincidentally the oldest mill on the Tees.
She added: “The corn mill, on the Demesnes, was built in the 13th century by Hugh Balliol, who was a descendent of Bernard de Balliol, who built the castle.
Barnard Castle Waterfalls, Weirs and Woodland Streams will be available for sale at £4 in local shops. A pocket-sized edition of the book will also be available for £1.
