Afternoon jazz session heads to Barney

AFTERNOON DELIGHT: Jazz in the Afternoon will perform a varied programme at The Witham in early October

JAZZ enthusiasts are in for a treat with an afternoon performance in Barnard Castle by a North Yorkshire-based group early next month.
Jazz in the Afternoon comprises five experienced musicians who come together to perform light jazz, blues and even a touch of funk and soul.
Their show includes early blues numbers and jazz standards as well as some more contemporary pieces.
The group will perform at The Witham on Sunday, October 3, starting at 2pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for students and the U16s. Go to www. thewitham.org.uk or call the box office on 01833 631107.
Meanwhile, the planned return this month of the popular Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club had to be postponed.
The River City Hot Six were due to be the first guests post-pandemic at the club, which meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, in Darlington.
However, the show was postponed when hall officials decided to close the venue due to increased Covid levels in the town.
Jazz club organisers say it is now unlikely the club will manage any live events for the rest of the year.
