Ady brings his London Songs north to Teesdale

BARNEY BOUND: Singer-songwriter Ady Johnson will play tracks from his new album London Songs when he takes to the stage at The Witham

AFTER organising successful gigs featuring veteran artists John Otway and Eddie and the Hotrods in recent months, Startforth-based promoter Dave Palmer has opted for something a little different for his latest show.

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Ady Johnson will take to the stage at The Witham, Barnard Castle, on Saturday, October 27, for a solo performance.

The Suffolk-born musician, who is now based in the capital, will be promoting his new acoustic album London Songs, which was released earlier this year after a successful Pledge Music campaign to raise the necessary funds.

He said the songs were inspired by the views, the people and places he had met since relocating to London in 2011, ranging in style from ballads to “stompers” .

Before focusing on music, Ady Johnson combined gigging with work as an antique furniture restorer.

He got a major break in 2010 when, after busking outside, he was asked to stand in on the main bill at BBC6’s 6Fest after a band cancelled.

His first solo album, Tell the Worry Dolls, was released a year later after which came 2015’s EP Thank You for the Good Things and a single New Year’s Day in 2016 before he started work on London Songs.

Mr Palmer said: “London Songs is an excellent album of unique songs performed to a very high standard and well produced.

“Ady Johnson’s songs have plaudits from many in the music industry, including Americana UK and Tom Robinson, of BBC 6 Music.”

Supporting Ady Johnson at The Witham will be Andy Yeadon and Moray Nellis. Their performance will also mark the official release of their new album The Beast below, which was recorded at The Hub, Barnard Castle.

“This line-up is of the highest standard. I am certain the audience will be entertained throughout the evening,” added Mr Palmer.

Tickets for the 7.30pm show are £12 in advance or £15 on the door. For details contact The Witham box office on 01833 631107 or go to www.thewitham.org.uk.
