Acclaimed pianist to perform at The Witham

EXCITING: Chiyan Wong will perform a recital in Barnard Castle

LOVERS of classical music are in for a treat with the visit of a critically acclaimed pianist to Barnard Castle.

UK-based musician Chiyan Wong was recognised as one of the most promising young artists to appear at the International Mozarteum Summer Academy and subsequently performed at the Salzburg Festival last summer.

He brings his talents to The Witham on Wednesday, March 14.

The pianist released his critically-acclaimed debut on LINN Records in spring 2017 which featured Franz Liszt’s operatic transcriptions.

The year before he made successful debuts with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in a Liszt/Beethoven programme, where he was immediately re-invited for the following season.

Last summer he returned to the Singapore International Piano Festival and also performed at Stoller Hall as a featured artist in the International Piano Summer School at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester.

His programme for The Witham will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Busoni and Liszt.

Katy Taylor, director of The Witham, said: “I am so excited to welcome a talent like Chiyan Wong – he is a young person on the brink of an international career.

“This is the opportunity to enjoy a recitatal here in Barnard Castle with a musician of this calibre and a chance to introduce our classical music audience to one of the world’s most promising young musicians.”

Tickets for the recital are £12.
