A welcome return for guitar maestro Eduardo

BACK TO BARNINGHAM: Eduardo Niebla will perform in the village hall for the first time in eight years

MUSIC lovers in Barningham are preparing to welcome back an old friend.

Eight years after last appearing in the village, Eduardo Niebla, famous master of flamenco jazz fusion, is returning to Barningham Village Hall on Friday, September 27.

On this occasion, he will be accompanied by Matthew Robinson, head of guitar at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Dance.

In a career spanning four decades, Eduardo has been acclaimed as one of the world’s greatest guitar players and a potent force in flamenco jazz fusion.

He takes flamenco gypsy jazz roots and fuses them with Latin, Arabic, Indian and classical influences to produce an electrifying show.

He has traversed the world of jazz, classical, world and pop music, collaborating with performers as diverse as George Michael and the Dante String Quartet, and has appeared at international festivals and countless venues across the continents.

He has teamed up with the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme for a tour of intimate village halls in the North Pennines.

Matthew Robinson has played with Eduardo Niebla across the UK and Europe since 2011.

Robin Brooks, a member of Barningham Village Hall committee, said: “When Eduardo came to Barningham in 2011 his show was sold out well before he arrived and this is a very welcome return visit.

“Those who know his work won’t need any recommendation from me but for anyone who hasn’t heard him, you’re in for a real treat; I can guarantee an evening of spellbinding music.”

He added: “The show is coming to us under the banner of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme. The other dates in Eduardo and Matthew’s tour are in Cumbria and Weardale so this is definitely the only chance to see them in Teesdale.”

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £9.50 for adults, £4 for children and £20 for families. Call 01833 621203 or email rpbrooks72@ gmail.com to reserve tickets or book on line at www.highlightsnorth.co.uk. Show-goers are welcome to bring their own drinks.
