A TOP choir is to perform in a dale village at the end of this month and people are advised to “get their tickets while they can”.
Northern Voices, a well known regional choir who have performed across the North East and Yorkshire, will be performing an evening of choral music at St Mary’s Church, in Gainford, on Saturday, September 29, from 7.30pm.
The choir, which was formed from the successful Carol Andrew Singers in 2011, have gone from strength to strength and have nearly 50 members including Gainford-based tenor Paul Place.
Mr Place, who is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of local folk band Gegenforde, will be performing with the choir. A classically trained tenor, Mr Place has sung in regional choirs for 16 years.
Northern Voices sing a mixture of pieces by Mozart, Rutter and Vivaldi as well as songs from West End and Broadway shows, Gershwin and The Beatles. Their musical director, Gillian Sild, has sung with and led many well-known choirs and directed Opera Nova for two years. Her husband, Stephen Sild, their well-known accompanist, studied at the Royal Academy of Music, the Northern College of Music and Durham University and he has performed and sung with professional and semi-professional ensembles including the Halle Choir. Sue Taylor, warden at St Mary’s Church, said: “With their fabulous mix of music and their reputation we are in for a real treat so grab your tickets while you can. We’d love to see you. You really don’t want to miss what will be a wonderful evening.”
